Canon Inc. è tra le più importanti case produttrici del mondo, nel mercato della fotografia.
La dea buddhista della misericordia Kannon è l'ispiratrice di questo nome. La Canon viene fondata il 10 agosto 1937, e si pone subito in evidenza per la produzione di macchine a raggi x.
Tra le altre cose produce la prima fotocopiatrice a carta comune del mercato giapponese e lanciando negli anni '80 le stampanti laser e bubble jet.
La fuoriuscita dal Giappone avviene nel 1955 quando una filiale viene aperta a New York nel 1955 mentre è del 1968 l'apertura di una filiale commerciale Canon in Europa.
Le dirette concorrenti della Canon sono Fujifilm, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Konica Minolta, Leica, Olympus, Epson, Kodak, Hewlett-Packard, e Xerox.
