FASTWEB è una società nata 1999 a Milano da una joint venture tra e.Biscom Aem con l'idea di realizzare una rete in fibra ottica che coprisse il territorio milanese.
Dopo una rapida crescita ed un'estensione che ne ha visto l'estensione in molte zone della penisola, Fastweb ha fermato i lavori destinati a sviluppare la fibra ottica ed ora lavora esclusivamente in ADSL appoggiandosi al doppino Telecom.
L'accesso per gli abbonati avviene quindi in fibra ottica, ADSL in ULL e ADSL in wholesale di Telecom Italia.Grazie alla tecnoligia IPTV Fastweb fornisce un servizio televisivo sulla linea ADSL o in fibra ottica degli abbonati.
Questa piattaforma, partita nel 2001 sull'utenza in fibra ottica, è stata resa disponibile agli utenti ADSL dal 2003 ed offre un servizio di video on demand permettendo di scegliere cosa vedere e quando vederlo.
Il servizio di telefonia mobile con prefisso 373, è stato lanciato nel giugno 2008 appoggiandosi su strutture tecnologiche della Nokia Siemens Networks proprie e autonome, grazie all'accordo raggiunto con 3 Italia nel marzo 2008.
