Nikon nasce nel 1917, con il nome Nippon Kōgaku Kōgyō (日本光學工業株式會社), in seguito all'unione di due società leader nel settore ottico.
Binocoli, fotocamere, strumenti di precisione per queste, microscopi e strumenti di rilevazione sono gli àmbiti in cui si è specializzata la Nikon sin dalla nascita e durante la seconda guerra mondiale fornì ufficialmente molti di questi prodotti all'esercito giapponese
Il nome di Nikon fu dato nel 1946, unendo Nippon Kōgaku ("ottica giapponese") con la parola Ikon, con riferimento alla Zeiss.

Vincent Munier testing the Nikon D3s during a two-week assignment in Finland. This is the actual camera footage (note that YouTube is only 720i). Besides the cutting almost no post processing was applied. Several scenes were done using the high ISOs. The bear scene for example was mainly shot at ISO 12800. The lens used for most of the scenes was the AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR. Additionally used: AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G ED VR (Puffins). |
