Quando si pensa a Ray-Ban il pensiero corre immediatamente allo storico occhiale a goccia indossato da James Dean o Tom Cruise che ha fatto la storia delle lenti solari in tutto il mondo.
Una storia molto particolare perché si narra che il luogotenente MacCready, in seguito ad una traversata nell'Atlantico su pallone arostatico, subì danni alla vista a per una non datta protezione per gli occone agli occhi.
Così si rivolse alla Bausch & Lomb, l'azienda americana d'ottica nata nel 1853, per chiedere la realizzazione di un paio di occhiali altamente protettivi e avvolgenti per gli aviatori.
Nacquero così i Ray Ban Anty-glar, con un brevetto depositato nel 1937. Questo modello, molto simile agli odierni Aviator fu preso in dotazione dalla United States Air Force.
Negli anni successivi questi occhiali hanno avuto grande sfoggio nelle pellicole cinematografiche e sono stati indossati da molti cantanti della scena rock internazionale come Lou Reed e Axl Rose.
Ray-Ban fa attualmente parte del gruppo Luxottica.
Alcuni modelli Ray Ban sono Aviator, Wayfarer, Caravan, Shooter, Predato e Clubmast.
